ANTIOCH (ANTI) CEMETERY
ATLANTA, CASS COUNTY, TEXAS
LOCATION: About 8.8 miles west of Queen City from the intersection
of Hwy 59 & 96. Go Hwy 96, known as Atlanta State Park road, to CR
2791.
Different direction: From Hwy 59, turn on CR 2791 for 6.7 miles.
The church was organized in 1856 by Rev. Nelson Porterfield. In
1876, J. J. Williams presented a hand written deed to the deacons
of the Antioch Baptist Church for a 2 acre tract of land in the
Josiah Massie Survey. The land was to belong to the church and .
school so long as it was used for these purposes.
`The "grandfather clause" was released in 1963 by the heirs, giving
Antioch Baptist Church absolute title to the land.
In_1970, the church purchased 2 acres of land on the east side of
the cemetery and a strip along the north side of the cemetery. In
1977, the church voted to sell the 2 acre tract to the cemetery
committee, there hy giving complete control of the cemetery to the
cemetery committee and funded by donations instead of funds from
the churchs general fund. 8-
